The Akai MPD218 is a MIDI-over-USB pad controller designed with producers, programmers, musicians and DJs in mind. It features a blend of MPC controls and technologies that mesh with USB connectivity, bringing the feel of classic beat making into computer music production.
Many imporvements were made, the first of which was the Thick Fat MPC pads, developed with a new design that creates an unprecedented user experience. The MPD218 also has an expanded control set of 6 knobs in 3 banks, allowing you increased control over your sounds and effects.
MIDI information is transferred over its plug-and-play USB interface for use on Mac or PC, erasing the need for drivers. The USB connection powers the MPD218 so the included USB cable is all you need.
In addition to the improved functionality, the MPD218 features iOS compatibility when using the Camera Connection Kit and included free software: Akai Pro MPC Essentials, Big Bang Drums and Big Bang Cinema from Sonivox, Ableton Live Lite, and Software Preset Editor.
